Students will be taught a Limon based contemporary modern dance technique class that is concentrated on movement and the wide range of dynamical qualities specific to time, space, and energy. We will also explore improvisation and spontaneous play to embrace personal uniqueness and artistry. Elements of the class take inspiration from Evans based technique, Bartenieff Fundamentals and Laban Movement Analysis. An emphasis will be placed on achieving self-expression, musicality, and three-dimensionality. There is always another layer to discover.

Lisa Rose LaMarre Wilmot is a contemporary modern dance choreographer and dancer focused on site-specific interdisciplinary collaborations, including film, live improvisation performances, and meaningful choreographed works that test the boundaries of performance based artwork. She is the director of LaMarre and Dancers and an Artist-in-Residence for VSA Michigan. Currently working toward her Master of Arts in Teaching Artistry from Wayne State University, Lisa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Western Michigan University and was selected as the WMU Department of Dance Presidential Scholar. As a teaching artist, she works to enrich and inspire each and every dancer with individuality, superior technique, creativity, and fundamental values. Lisa has been on adjunct faculty at Wayne State University since 2012, and is a member of both the Michigan Dance Council and National Dance Education Organization. Lisa works to bring dance away from the lofty stage and into the realm of everyday life.  In 2015, she received a seed grant for ArtPrize 7 to premier “They Were Displaced…And Again” in an unused house curated by res345 at The Rumsey Street Project. Her choreography has also been produced for ArtPeers, DDCdances, Wayne State University, Grand Valley State University, Oakland University, Michigan Youth Arts Festival, People Dancing, ArtPrize 7, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Detroit Contemporary, Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Music Hall, Sidewalk Performing Arts Festival, Midwest Regional Alternative Dance Festival (RADFest), and numerous galleries/spaces/schools nationally. Lisa has worked as the Education Director of DDCdances and has presented her integrated, inclusionary teaching technique at conferences in Washington DC at the International VSA Arts Festival and in Grand Rapids, MI at The Heart and Spirit of Caregivers Conference. Her dance company work has included projects for DDCdances, shawnbibledanceco, People Dancing, Patterson Rhythm Pace, and Mack Avenue Dance Company.
