Amy Wilson, DITA Artistic Director

Amy Wilson, DITA co-founder, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wichita State University (WSU) with a BFA in Dance a performance degree that specializes in modern, ballet, jazz and tap. After graduating, Amy moved to New York City to continue her training, including a work-study program at Merce Cunningham Studio. She supplemented her training at various New York City studios, including Dance Space, Peridance Center, Alvin Ailey, Limon, and Steps on Broadway. Amy moved to Grand Rapids in 2001, and began work with the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) Dance Collaborative. She formed Pick-Up Dance Project, choreographing and performing in downtown Grand Rapids. She also began teaching at local studios. In 2008, Amy co-founded Dance In The Annex (DITA). In 2009, DITA expanded to include collaborative, live performance and featured prominently in the distinguished, original Salmagundi event at Wealthy Theatre (August 09). From there, DITA performed in ArtPrize 2009 as the only modern dance entry: Touching Peace, choreographed by Catherine Herrman, performed nightly in the Old Federal Building. Also in 2009, Amy choreographed and performed as part of the Grand Rapids Symphony Womens Committee Variety Show, and contributed a live performance to the Moms Bloom benefit, Motherhood: The Journey. She also choreographed and performed for The Breast SublimeĀ a benefit for the La Leche League. Amy was recently invited by UICA to provide modern/ballet as a centerpiece of their highly-regarded NoshNight series, February 25, 2010. Amy coordinated the dance components and music selections for the live-music, live-performance event Trip The Light, a benefit for ArtPeers. Amy is excited about DITA’s next two performances, “Salmagundi” in September, and “ArtPrize 2010″.
