An exploratory workshop on getting airborne in Contact Dance – for dancers, actors and anyone with a desire to develop physical awareness and yearning to move from their senses.

Throughout the workshop we will explore gravity and our relationship to the floor as the basis for flight. There will be a gradual development from moving on the floor, to low flying, to jumping and catching. Concepts such as: the active-relaxed body, push/pull patterns, moving the pelvis through space, timing, momentum, and skeletal support will be addressed as practical skills leading towards the ability to lift or be lifted, catching a moving body or being caught with ease and accuracy.

Daelik has a performance history of over 20 years. He began acting in the mid-1980s, creating and performing in original Grotowski-inspired physical theatre productions. In 1990 he discovered dance through Contact Improvisation. He spent 3 years exploring improvisation before pursuing training in dance technique. In 2002 Daelik formed his own company, MACHiNENOiSY. As a professional dancer Daelik has performed and taught CI throughout Canada, in the United States and Europe.
