About

With a focus on artistry and technique, creativity and collaboration, Dance In The Annex’s (DITA) mission is to secure, promote and enhance contemporary dance in Grand Rapids by fostering an appreciation of dance through education and performance opportunities.

We provide the West Michigan dance community affordable Master Classes with highly-trained and well-respected Guest Artists from all over Michigan. Our instructors typically have Master Degrees or Equivalent Professional Experience. DITA Master Classes provide an opportunity for local dancers, dance educators, choreographers and young dancers an outlet for growth and inspiration.

We aim to create an awareness that contemporary dance is a true art form that has the ability to impact and inspire the Grand Rapids community and beyond. DITA nurtures the talent and creativity of the Grand Rapids dance community by engaging in performance and choreography opportunities. DITA participated in ArtPrize 2009 and will perform again in ArtPrize 2010 as the only contemporary dance entry. Other performances include: NoshNight at UICA, Salmagundi at Wealthy Theatre and the locally-acclaimed Trip The Light at Wealthy Theatre, an event that brought local musicians, choreographers and dancers together in collaboration.

Our goal is to engage in projects and programs which will integrate a variety of artistic disciplines in presentations and performance for the benefit of the general public. DITA believes that by providing training and performance opportunities for dancers and choreographers we can also provide similar opportunities for lighting designers, costume designers, scenic designers/artists, composers, musicians, and film/video media artists.
